Aceon
DESCRIPTION

Aceon is a brand name for antihypertensive drug perindopril erbumin which relieves high blood pressure in adults.

How It Works

Aceon belongs to a class of drugs known as angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors (ACE inhibitors). Angiotensin is naturally produced by the body to cause blood vessels to narrow. When an individual has elevated blood pressure, this narrowing can cause the heart to work harder, putting it as risk of failure. Aceon can block the effects of angiotensin in the body, so blood vessels relax and lower the pressure.

Uses

Aceon is prescribed mainly to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). Aceon is the choice drug to treat hypertension in patients with stable coronary artery disease. If hypertension is not treated, it can lead to heart failure or a heart attack. Aceon can reduce the risk of death by heart failure, kidney failure and stroke.

Dosage

Dosage of Aceon will vary depending on various factors such as severity of condition and response to treatment. Your doctor will prescribe you the correct amount of Aceon.

Take Aceon just as your doctor has told you to. Do not make any changes to the dosage amount or schedule without consulting with your doctor first.

Take Aceon only after reading the patient information leaflet provided with the packaging.

Aceon is usually prescribed to be taken daily once or twice. You should take Aceon pills by the mouth, with a glass of water if needed.

Take Aceon at the same time each day to keep the drug at a consistent level in your body. It will also help you remember your doses.

Do not suddenly stop taking Aceon before your doctor tells you to stop it. This may make your condition even worse.

If you need to take lower amounts of Aceon because of severe side effects, tell your doctor. You may be able to start with a lower dosage and then gradually increase the dosage to the correct amount.

Do not miss doses of Aceon. Do not take double doses of Aceon to make up for missed doses.

Side Effects

Aceon is known to cause the following side effects:

Dizziness
Lightheadedness
Dry cough
Tiredness

Side effects are usually mild. Tell your doctor if side effects get worse or continue to persist.

Precautions

Do not take Aceon if you suspect that the drug might cause an allergic reaction. Carefully read the listed ingredients before you take the medication.

Some medical conditions may make Aceon unsafe to take. Tell your doctor if you have or had liver disease, conditions that cause loss of excessive water or minerals from the body, high levels of potassium in the blood, or if you have undergone blood filtering procedures such as dialysis and LDL apheresis.

Aceon may cause the potassium in your blood to spike to abnormal amounts.

It’s not recommended to take Aceon when pregnant or planning to get pregnant. Ask your doctor if Aceon is safe to take when breastfeeding.

Self-Care

It’s strongly recommended to avoid consumption of alcohol. At least limit alcohol consumption when undergoing Aceon treatment.
