Dipyridamole
DESCRIPTION

Dipyridamole is used alongside blood thinners in order to prevent the formation of clots after heart valve replacements. This drug is also referred to as Persantine in the medical industry.

How it works

Dipyridamole is an antiplatelet medication. It prevents platelets from clumping together and keeps the heart blood vessels open. This way, the drug is able to keep the blood flowing.

Uses

This medication is used with blood thinners such as Warfarin to avoid the formation of clots, which occur after a heart valve replacement. By avoiding blood clots, this medication reduces your vulnerability towards conditions such as strokes, heart attacks and pulmonary embolisms.

Dosage

This medication is generally taken four times on a daily basis. It should be taken by mouth. The dosage will be determined by your healthcare provider according to the uniqueness of your condition and the way you respond to the treatment.

If you wish to benefit from this medication, you need to take it as regularly as possible. Do not accidently skip or miss your doses. Taking the medication at the same time every day will help you to remember.
