Levitra is a prescription drug used to treat erectile dysfunction in men.

How It Works

Erectile dysfunction is a condition that affects men where a man is unable to achieve or maintain an erection when sexually excited. Levitra contains an active ingredient called vardenafil, which belongs to a class of drugs known as PDE5 inhibitors. Vardenafil can increase blood flow to the penis. This action helps men with erectile dysfunction to get hard easier.

Uses

Levitra is prescribed to treat erectile dysfunction, often to older men. A man must have a medical diagnosis of erectile dysfunction to take Levitra. This medication does not cause erections; it only assists patients get an erection when a sexual stimulant is present. It should be noted that Levitra does not “cure” erectile dysfunction or increase sexual desire.

Dosage

Levitra is available in 2.5mg, 5mg, 10mg, and 20mg doses. The usual starting dose is 10mg, which may be increased or decreased depending on how your body responds to the treatment. Your doctor will prescribe you the correct dosage of Levitra.

Take this drug one or two hours before starting sexual activity. Swallow the round orange tablets whole without crushing or chewing.

You should take only one dose of Levitra per day. If you miss a dose, only take it if you haven’t already taken another dose for the day. Levitra does not work instantly. Taking more of the drug will not result in a quick erection. You could put yourself at serious risk for an overdose if you take Levitra more than once per day.

Side Effects

Levitra may result in one or more of the following common side effects:

 Indigestion
 Flushing
 Stuffy or runny nose
 Headache
 Dizziness
 Back pain
 Upset stomach

The above side effects should go away after a few hours. Immediately call your doctor if the side effects persist for more than a day, or if the side effects become really bothersome.

Levitra can uncommonly cause priapism (an erection that won’t go away or an erection that lasts for more than 4 hours) and color vision changes. Immediately seek medical assistance if you experience these problems.

Very rarely, taking Levitra can result in vision loss. It’s advised to immediately stop taking Levitra and similar drugs if you experience this side effect, and seek emergency medical care.

Precautions

Do not take Levitra is you are allergic to any of the active or inactive ingredients in the drug.

Levitra adversely reacts with medications called nitrates or any other substance that contain nitrates. Ask your doctor if Levitra is safe to take with any other medications you may be taking.

Levitra is not a form of male birth control and should not be used as such. Levitra does not protect users or their partners from sexually transmitted diseases either.
