Viagra
DESCRIPTION

Viagra is a well known drug used to treat erectile dysfunction in men.

How It Works

Erectile dysfunction is caused by various factors including psychological. However, the physiological cause of ED is lack of blood flow to penile tissue that makes it difficult for the organ to get hard. Viagra contains sildenafil. This drug can cause blood vessels to dilate so blood flow to the penile region is increased. This assists men suffering from ED to achieve a full erection.

Uses

Viagra is prescribed to treat erectile dysfunction in men. A doctor must first diagnose you as a sufferer of ED before you can take Viagra. This is a pharmaceutical medication, not a supplement that increases sexual desire or prolongs the duration of an erection. It should be noted that taking Viagra does not instantly result in an erection. A sexual stimulant must be present to arouse the Viagra user.

Dosage

Dosage of Viagra will vary depending on the type of Viagra you are taking (extended release, capsule, tablet, etc) and your response to treatment. Your doctor will take your medical history into consideration and prescribe you the correct dosage of the medication.

Take Viagra exactly as your doctor tells you to take it. Your doctor might start you on a low dose of Viagra and gradually increase the dose. Do not change the dose without the advice of your doctor.

Read the patient information leaflet provided with the packaging carefully before using Viagra.

Viagra should be taken about 1 hour before sexual activity begins. Viagra is effective between 30 minutes to 4 hours after taking your daily dose. Take Viagra as your doctor tells you to take it.

You can take Viagra with or without food. However, high fat in food can make the drug work slower.

Viagra should notbe taken more than once per day. Do not take Viagra pills in less than 24 hour intervals.

Side Effects

The following side effects are possible with Viagra:

Headache
Upset stomach
Dizziness
Flushing
Nausea
Stuffy or runny nose
Muscle pain
Back pain
Rash
Abnormal vision (blurry vision or seeing a color change like a blue tinge around objects)

Side effects when taking Viagra should disappear after a few hours or a day. If the side effects become too bothersome, or last for longer than a day, immediately contact your doctor.

Precautions

Do not take Viagra if you are allergic to any of the ingredients contained in the drug.

Viagra reacts negatively with certain types of drugs, especially ones containing nitrates. If you are taking other medications, herbal supplements, vitamins or similar substances, ask your doctor if Viagra is safe to take.

Patients with certain medical conditions may need to take lower doses of Viagra for safety reasons. Viagra is not safe to use for patients with certain preexisting conditions. Ask your doctor if Viagra is safe to use considering your medical history.

Self-Care

If you take Viagra with food, note that high fat content in meals can hinder how the drug is absorbed by the body. As a result, Viagra may take longer than usual to work. If you must take Viagra with a meal, make sure you are eating lean food like vegetables and fruit.
