Reglan is used to treat certain stomach and intestinal conditions. This medication is also referred to as Metoclopramide.
How it works
Reglan works by blocking a natural chemical in the body, a neurotransmitter known as dopamine. It works by increasing the speed of stomach emptying and movement of the intestines.
Reglan is useful in treating certain stomach and intestinal problems. It is used as a short-term treatment for heartburn, most often as a last resort. Reglan is also used by individuals with diabetes who have poor emptying of their stomachs. Moreover, this drug is useful in preventing nausea and vomiting that occurs as a result of chemotherapy or radiation treatment for cancer.
Reglan is generally consumed four times a day on a daily basis. The drug is taken by mouth, 30 minutes before each meal and before bedtime. However, your physician might prescribe you a different dosage to suit your own medical condition.
If you are consuming this medication in the liquid form, make sure to use a medical measuring spoon. Using a regular household spoon can lead to the wrong diagnosis. The dosage will be determined by your healthcare provider according to medical condition, weight and treatment response.
