Albenza
DESCRIPTION

Albendazole, more commonly known as Albenza can be used to treat different types of tapeworm infections and comes in off-white to white colored, biconvex, circular, bevel-edged TILTAB tablets that are usually supplied in 200 milligrams.

How it works

Albendazole can be mainly used to treat parenchymal neurocysticercosis, which is caused by the active lesions that are caused by the pork tapeworm’s (Taenia solium) larval forms. It can also be used to treat an infection caused by the dog tapeworm’s (Echinococcus granulosus) larval forms, which is known as cystic hydatid disease. This disease usually is known to occur in lungs, the liver and peritoneum. Albenza generally operates as an orally administered anthelmintic drug.

Uses

This medication is also known to be useful when treating infections caused by other types of worms/parasites such as beef tapeworms, whipworms, roundworms, pinworms, threadworms or hookworms.

Dosage

The medicine’s dosage will usually be based on your medical condition, response to treatment and weight and you can use it by mouth, 1 to 2 times daily. You can crush/chew the tablets and use it with the aid of water if you or your child has trouble, when it comes to swallowing them.

Make sure to follow your doctor’s advice properly, especially if you have to take Albendazole in a treatment cycle (usually for the hydatid disease). Normally the cycle of treatment will be for 28 days, where the medicine is taken twice daily, and then stopping the usage for 2 weeks afterwards. Use the medication the same time each day so that you will not forget a dose and if it is a treatment cycle, it would be best to mark a calendar to remind you, when to restart its usage.

Take Albenza regularly, in order to allow it to affect your body properly. Even if the symptoms fade away within a couple of days, it is important that you continue consuming it for the full amount of the prescribed time. Inform your physician if your condition seems to last or if gets worse.
