How it works
Betnovate is a topical corticosteroid applied to the body surface. Corticosteroids are anti-inflammatory medicine prescribed for a number of different problems. These are available in several different forms such as tablets, injections, inhalers and lotions.
What corticosteroids do is they imitate the effects of certain hormones that are produced in your body from the adrenal glands. They mimic the hormone cortisol. Corticosteroids are used to treat several issues such as eczema, nappy rashes, skin irritations, etc.
Betnovate (Betamethasone topical) is used by individuals for a number of reasons, primarily to relieve redness, itching or swelling one might experience. These could be due to skin problems and betnovate is to be used only if prescribed by your doctor.
The cream, ointment or gel must be applied twice or once a day, daily, to the affected area. It’s important that you apply only a thin layer. The use should be limited to 45 g per week. The treatment time depends on what your doctor recommended, however, it should be up to two weeks.
The foam has to be applied twice a day. Follow your doctor’s directions and avoid contact with the eyes.

Stinging in the applied area
Hair loss or thinning
Flaking of the skin
Blistering of the skin
Redness around the mouth
Acne or pimples
Lightening of normal skin color
Increased hair growth
Consult a doctor immediately if you feel you’re reacting badly or if the side effects are unusual. It could be you either reacting normally or negatively to the medication. Discontinue use if you don’t see an improvement in a few days.
Do not use Betnovate if you suffer from the following;
Inflammation around the mouth area
Bacterial skin infection
Viral skin infection
Anal or genital itching
Fungal skin infections
Tuberculosis of the skin
Skin conditions with ulcers
If you suffer from any of the above skin conditions, consult your doctor prior to application of Betnovate.
Make sure your doctor knows if you’re suffering from diabetes, high blood pressure, hypertension or any other similar problems.
Betnovate should not be used on children unless advised by your doctor.
If the package is broken or tampered with, do not use this. Check the expiry date before you apply Betnovate.
Let your doctor and pharmacist know if you have any form of allergies before applying this as this could result in severe allergic reactions. You need to inform him about all the medications that you are taking as well.
There’s no study on any risk on breastfeeding mothers or any harmful effects on infants. However, it’s advisable that you do not apply this while pregnant and during breast feeding as it’s always safer. If you do become accidently pregnant while using this medication, it is highly important for you to notify your healthcare provider immediately.
