Cleocin Gel
DESCRIPTION

This gel is used primarily to treat acne; however, it may be used for several other reasons if indicated by your doctor.

How it works

This gel is a lincomycin antibiotic. Limcomycin is an antibiotic that is used to treat severe bacterial infections. This antibiotic is also used by people that cannot administer penicillin antibiotics.

How cleocin gel works is by killing the bacteria that is a primary cause for acne and also helps reduce the amount of free fatty acids that tend to irritate your skin surface.

Clindamycin is an antibiotic that works by stopping the multiplication of bacteria that contribute to the development of acne.

Uses

This gel is used to decrease the number of acne lesions on the surface of your skin. It gets rid of acne and helps your skin return to its normal state.

Dosage

The gel usually has strength of 1% and is to be used only on one’s skin. It is to be applied as directed by your doctor.

For adults and kids; apply a thin layer on the affected areas twice a day, daily. These products are not to be given to young children below the age of 12 years.

Side effects

Some of the side effects of using this gel might include;

Dryness
Redness
Oily skin
Burning
Skin peeling

If the above side effects worsen, consult a doctor immediately.

Some of the major and rare side effects include;

Stomach cramps, bloating, swelling or abdominal pains
Diarrhea (as a small amount of this medication may enter your blood stream and cause severe intestinal conditions)
Nausea and vomiting
Increased thirst
Weight loss
Skin rashes not present before this medication

The minor side effects will go away once your body gets used to the medication, however if you experience any of the more uncommon and rare side effects, discontinue use immediately.

Precautions

Before applying Cleocin gel, let your doctor know if you are allergic to it or any other medication including limcomycin). Let your pharmacist also know if you are currently taking any other medication during this time. This product may contain inactive ingredients that could cause severe allergic reactions.

Tell your doctor about your medical history such as;

Chronic asthma or hay fever
Intestinal diseases
Any other diseases you have a history of

Depending on the other drugs you are also currently using, the drug interactions may vary. It’s always advised to keep a note of all the medications/creams or ointments you are using. Do not increase the dosage or amount you are supposed to apply without consulting your doctor first, as this could do more harm than good to your skin.

Furthermore, you must also stick to your dosage. Do not apply this gel more than the recommended amount.

Self-care

Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or hoping to get pregnant before the use of this medication, it could be harmful to be unborn baby. However, make sure you ask beforehand anyway.

Consult your doctor before breast feeding, although no known harm has been caused to nursing infants.
