Eurax
DESCRIPTION

Eurax topical is a medication mainly used to treat scabies and itching in relation to other skin conditions. It is available only as a cream and lotion.

How it works

Eurax (Crotamiton) works by killing mites, it’s applied to the skin to get rid of these scabies parasite.

Crotamiton is slightly yellowish oil, which has an amine like odor. The exact mechanism of crotamiton is unknown; however, it is known that this is toxic to the parasites. As a result, it kills them and the eggs that they’ve laid.

Cromatin belongs to two types of drugs; scabicides and antipruritics. Its role in Eurax is being a scabicide, by killing mites.

Uses

Primarily used to treat scabies, which is a skin infection caused by mites that burrow holes in your skin. This causes itching, and what Eurax does is stop the itching.

Dosage

There is no specific amount to Eurax users; however it’s advised that you thoroughly massage this on your skin, paying extra attention to the places that are unreachable and the folds. After application, it’s advised to apply 24 hours later once again.

Make sure the bed sheets and covers are clean when you go to bed, and they have to be changed constantly.

Put this cream into your fingernails, as the mites are most likely to be in areas as such. If you use a brush for the application of Eurax, immediately get rid of this brush and do not use it for any other purpose.

Side effects

Some of the signs of skin irritation are as follows;

A rash that didn’t exist before
Redness of the skin
Dryness of the skin
Skin peeling off

Following are the side effects if you are experiencing an allergic reaction;

Shortness of breath
Closing of your throat
Swelling of your lips
Swelling of your face and tongue
Hives
Unusual itching

This is not a complete list of side effects, if you do experience anything out of normal, consult your doctor immediately.

Precautions

Do not take this medication if you are allergic crotamiton. Let your pharmacist know if you have any other allergies, as the product may contain inactive ingredients which could cause an allergic reaction. If you are on any other medication, let your doctor know.

If this medication gets in your eyes, rinse your eyes immediately to get rid of the entire product.

Do not give Eurax to anyone under the age of 18 years as this is not recommended.

Let your doctor know if you are on any herbal medication or any other prescribed medication, especially before going into surgery or being admitted.

Your doctor and pharmacist should also be informed about your previous medical history.

If worsening skin irritation occurs, and continues to persist, discontinue use or consult a doctor.

Self care

It is not known whether Eurax affects pregnant women or their unborn baby, however, it is always advisable to let your doctor know if you are pregnant or hoping to get pregnant.

It is also unclear whether Eurax is recommended for women that breast feed, or if the drug passes onto breast milk. Consult your doctor prior to application anyway.
