DESCRIPTION

Imovane is a drug that helps you and relieves you from sleep disturbances.

How it works

Imovane (Zopiclone) is a nonbenzodiazepine hypnotic agent that is commonly used to treat insomnia. It is a cyclopyrrolone. Zopiclone belongs to the group of medicines called the Central Nervous System depressants.

The properties of Imovane include inducing anxiolytic, hypnotic, anticonvulsant and myorelaxant properties.

Uses

This medication is used for the short term treatment of sleeping disorders such as insomnia and helps the patient sleep easily, without any trouble. Long term treatment is not recommended as dependence on the drug could arise.

Dosage

Imovane comes in two forms, a 5 mg tablet and a 7.5 mg tablet.

The standard adult dosage of Imovane is one tablet before you go to bed.

Imovane is mostly used for the short term treatment of insomnia, ranging from 2-4 weeks, and is not recommended for long term use.

Imovane has to be administered only if you are able to take a full night’s sleep, before you need to wake up again. It’s to be taken in a single intake.

If the patient is over the years of 65, half a tablet is recommended.

Side effects

Some of the very common side effects of taking this medication are;

Dry mouth
Headaches
Drowsiness
Bitter taste in your mouth

The less common side effects are;

Heart burn
Stomach pain
Confusion
Depression
Change in appetite
Vomiting and nausea
Blurred vision
Impotence
Sleep walking
Other behaviours while asleep

Consuming alcohol while you are taking this medication can cause the increased risk of sleep walking. The risks are greater if you take more than the recommended dose.

Some of this medication might cause memory loss, this is usually not a problem is a person falls asleep right after taking the medication.
If any of the following occur, immediately consult a doctor;

Swelling of the face
Swelling of the lips and mouth
Difficulty in breathing
Hives
Fainting

Precautions

Because this medication makes you sleepy, do not administer imovane if you are about to do an activity that requires alertness and a lot of energy.

Do not drive for 12 hours after you take this medication.

Do not take this medication if you;

Have severe liver diseases
Have sleep apnea
Have breathing difficulties
Have myasthenia gravis

Let your doctor or pharmacist know if you are allergic to zopclone or any other ingredient that is found in this medication.

Do not take this medication when a full night’s sleep is not possible, as your body needs time to eliminate the medication from your system.

Do not exceed the duration of time you are supposed to administer this medication as this could be habit forming and you can become extremely dependent on it.

Self-care

It’s alright to administer Imovane while you are pregnant, however, not for longer than you are supposed to. Stick to the duration your doctor has given you.

Adminstration of this medication during pregnancy is not recommended as it could pass onto breast milk and affect the infant.
